A new coat—and I really mean it this time, when I say that THIS might be my favorite thing I’ve ever made (until the next thing, right?) I just really love this coat. Here are the details….
It is Katherine Tilton’s Butterick pattern B6253. I used a sweatshirt style jersey knit, which is ecru colored fleece on the inside and black with a slight sheen on the outside. I bought this fabric from Marcy Tilton a couple of months ago. (Yes, Katherine and Marcy are sisters, and they are amazing!) Marcy actually suggested this fabric for this pattern on a Facebook post, and I’m so glad she did! The ruffles are a raw edge, showing the underside of the fabric, and there are pockets affixed to the front. I combined pattern views A & B for various finishes.
I styled this look with a hat I knit last year (Monochrome Frame pattern and Shibui yarn from Knit-Purl in Portland) and a circle scarf I made a few years ago with fabric that is Missoni-esque. And Diesel jeans (Grupee jogg, my favorite).
I mostly followed the pattern—I used twin needles, serger, cover stitch machine, and also just a straight stitch on my sewing machine. Here are a couple of details that are uniquely my own:
I added these little O rings (chain mail) to the suede hood draw string and the zipper pull. The number 18 Bernina presser foot (button attaching foot) with its grippy little feet worked perfectly for attaching these rings.
