Magpie Manor Box Pillow

Magpie Manor Box Pillowfeatured

I immediately fell in love with Salem artist Bobi Sue’s Magpie Manor pillow pattern when I saw it in our local quilt store last month.  I bought her pattern (and her hand painted eyes), and I created my own version.  This was one of the most fun projects I’ve ever made.  I incorporated so many techniques–quilting, machine quilting, machine appliqué, couching, hand embroidery, quilt binding, and zipper installation.  This pillow has fabrics that span my entire life, and even the years before I was born.  Every scrap of fabric has a story behind it.  I loved particularly using some of my mom’s old fabrics.  But my kids keep resting their heads on this pillow—and, I find myself saying—“Don’t use THAT pillow!”  Like most throw pillows, my husband and boys don’t understand their purpose….why so many pillows???  “They are for DECORATION…..!” (of course)
